Websites

Most of the Web sites listed were not great.

Wiki Public Domain Image Resources was  the best newcomer (not saying much).

LibrarySpot.com was awful.

1. Their Ditto.com link was Abandoned.

2.  It had Google Image search which we were warned may have complications if you want to use an image legit.

3. It listed AltaVista. Is Alta Vista still around? I used them in the 90′s during college, got a career, time passes, never see them again.  Today I see them on libraryspot.com.  Really? They are either a Silent Champion or a friendly  Lonely Ghost.  Turns out that link leads to Yahoo!

The rest of sites are not much better. Gimp is free ware and comparable to PhotoShop. It is the best resource listed.  I thought I would try to give a new front runner with these resources.  Alas, good old Gimp is best amongst this lot.  The others are abandoned, superfluous, or wishy washy hubs for imagery.

Ch 15: Fancy Buttons and Menus

Fancy buttons are buttons that appear to be more than a link.  Some better ones are created using JavaScript.  Even better we are informed DW will help us to create some!  A few sites which help create buttons are: buttongenerator; grsites.com/button; download; freebuttons.org.  To make user experience seamless try to modify or create preloaded images for buttons.

To create fancy menus (the kind we all love) you can go to dynamicdrive. At the least it is a good place to start for beginners like moi.

Ch 16: Audio and Visual

Ahh. Well, I am almost shamed to read this in the current context.  I was AV in primary school.  Loved every minute of it.  However, sincerely detest AV on web sites.  Unless, I am actively seeking music or video.  Does that make sense?  It may be due to the fact that I have grown up with the internet.  As the author states, in the past, people went bonkers with rubbish videos/music littering their Web sites and frustrating visitors.  Forcing their taste onto anyone. Ick!

To accomplish adding AV to a Web site I would likely embed.  It seems the most inline with the other methods for inserting into our XHTML.
